State Basketball Makes History with Perfect Conference Record
The team's 18-0 run is the first in program history.
Summary
State University men's basketball completed an undefeated conference season, the first in program history. We talked to Coach Williams about what made this team special.
When the final buzzer sounded Saturday night and the scoreboard read 78-65, the State University gymnasium erupted. The men's basketball team had done something no other team in the program's 85-year history had accomplished: a perfect 18-0 conference record.
Head Coach Darnell Williams, in his fifth season at the helm, stood on the sideline with tears in his eyes as players mobbed each other at center court.
In our sit-down interview with Coach Williams, he credited the team's unusual chemistry and selflessness. "There's no ego in our locker room," he said.
The team now turns its attention to the conference tournament, where they'll be the top seed.
